Co-parenting with your ex, if they are a ‘true’ narcissist (someone who would qualify for a diagnosis of narcissistic personality disorder), is an impossible dream. And sadly, the very experts within the family court system who are supposed to protect your children have no understanding of this immutable fact. Instead, across the world, they blame both parents for their inability to cooperate regarding the children, which often leads to court orders that place families at an increased risk of harm.

Narcissists don’t co-parent – they ‘counter-parent’, using constant disagreements about the children to weaponise them against their ex (often simultaneously enlisting the family court itself as a further hapless tool of their abuse). And why do they do this? As a way to procure ‘narcissistic supply’ (the fuel they constantly need in order to feel emotionally safe) – from their most reliable source of it – you.

In this book, the third of the Narcissists in Divorce series, narcissism expert Dr Supriya McKenna takes a deep dive into the effects of narcissistic parenting upon children, and shows you how to counteract the damage.

She describes the most effective ways to communicate with your ex, to limit and manage their behaviors, and explains why the family legal system is so dangerous when it comes to cases involving narcissists. With strategies to help you avoid the legal system, Dr McKenna also empowers you to take control of the narrative if you do become stuck in court proceedings. This book contains sections on evidence gathering and dealing with social workers, and she breaks down exactly how (and whether) to request a psychological assessment of your ex through the family court.

Dr Supriya leaves no stone unturned. She includes a chapter detailing how to best prevent the children from being used as weapons of long-term post-separation abuse (including ‘parental alienation’), and provides a thorough parenting plan, designed to shut down the possibility of future conflict.

Please note: the information in this book can also be found in Dr Supriya’s much larger compendium volume, Narcissists in Divorce: From Leaving to Liberty – The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth, which deals with all aspects of narcissistic divorces, including the financial considerations.

The scales of justice are completely broken, and nowhere is this more obvious than in divorces involving narcissists. Regardless of where in the world you live, family law systems will haplessly (and sometimes not so haplessly) be enlisted by narcissists to become weapons of their abuse. This ‘lawfare’ (or ‘court-sanctioned abuse’) will be levelled at the very people who need the family court’s protection the most, and those who find themselves locked in a system (which itself perpetrates financial and emotional abuse), quickly learn that their narcissistic ex is actually only half the problem.

If you are a victim-survivor trying to escape your narcissistic partnership, this book, the second in the Narcissists in Divorce series, is written for you. Former medic Dr Supriya McKenna distills her years of experience working with clients into this in-depth, comprehensive, holistic guide – and she leaves no stone unturned. She breaks down her unique perspectives on how to stay afloat whilst swimming through the murky waters of the legal system, and shows you how to take control of the narrative, whilst simultaneously protecting your mental health.

Dr McKenna teaches you how to vet potential lawyers; details exactly how they should minimize the potential for long-term post-separation abuse; and even deals with how to spot (and sack) a narcissistic lawyer. She takes you through the practical realities of co-parenting with a narcissist; shows you how to protect your children from their narcissistic parent; and teaches you effective communication tactics with which to manage your narcissistic ex.

Including sections on cyberstalking and tech abuse, how to get your ex diagnosed for the court, and ways to try to stay away from the court arena, Dr McKenna masterfully tackles the complexities of this huge subject. She delivers the content in easy-to-read, bite-sized sections, with the warmth and empathy that has been so missing in her readers’ lives. This is, without a doubt, the definitive guide on how to divorce a narcissist.

The Narcissist Trap - The Mind-Bending Pull of the Great Pretenders

The Narcissist Trap - The Mind-Bending Pull of the Great Pretenders unveils narcissism, which hides in plain sight and so often goes unnoticed - in spite of the havoc it inevitably wreaks. Combining Dr Supriya's engaging storytelling with her no-nonsense explanations, she centres the book on the stories of four very different narcissists, and shows how each person in their lives are affected by them. As a fly on the wall, we meet these narcissists' partners, children, other family members, friends, work colleagues and casual acquaintances and we learn how and why the narcissist behaves towards them as they do.

The Narcissist Trap explains how the trap is laid, who is targeted, why it's so easy to fall in, and how the narcissist weakens their victims so they find it difficult to escape their gravitational pull.  It explains what lies at the heart of narcissism, and gives practical tips to manage the narcissists in your life. With special sections on what it is like to be the child of a narcissist and how to deal with workplace narcissism, this book promises to be the definitive guide on Narcissistic Personality Disorder for the general public - and is a must read for everyone who finds themselves in a difficult relationship that they cannot make sense of.

Narcissism and Family Law - A Practitioner's Guide

This groundbreaking guide, originally conceived by Dr Supriya in 2020, is written for solicitors, barristers, mediators, family coaches, judges and all practitioners of family law. Through engaging case studies, Supriya explains the behaviour patterns of those with narcissistic personality types, enabling the practitioner to recognise and pre-empt these predictable behaviours. She suggests effective communication strategies, and includes a detailed section on how to protect your own wellbeing when dealing with these difficult cases. Her section on narcissistic parenting describes the adverse effects on children. UK lawyer, Karin Walker, explains how practitioners can protect themselves from abusive behaviour when representing a narcissistic client, and when representing the spouse of a narcissistic individual, advises on how to enable a better, faster outcome. Now known as 'the Red Book', it has been highly recommended by top UK lawyers and reviewed as 'essential reading for all family lawyers.'
